The technology changed. The love of simulators did not.
What was out of reach back then now runs on an ordinary phone. The hard question is the same as years ago – how to get the feel of the ride right.
Years have passed since the first mobile simulators shipped under the WAPP name. What stayed is a community of players we are grateful for, and a stubborn love of simulators. Technology has moved a long way since then. Now we are finding out whether there is real interest in another ride.
Show us there is still an appetite for proper simulators from WAPP.
WAPP grew out of an enthusiasm for games and simulators. Its best known project was Subway Simulator Prague Metro – a simulation of driving the Prague metro that found players well beyond the Czech Republic.
The original simulator was built when mobile hardware and game engines were far more limited than they are today. A lot of things were done the long way round, simply because the direct route was not available.
The source files of the original mobile Subway Simulators were not preserved. Some code and assets from the unfinished City Transport Simulator did survive, but its technology and architecture are not a suitable foundation for a modern simulator. A possible new project would therefore start again in many areas.
Thank you to everyone who played the original simulators and stayed with the brand years after they disappeared from the stores. Your interest will help decide whether WAPP has another ride ahead.
