City Transport Simulator

Unfinished historical WAPP project · city transport simulator

What happened to the project

City Transport Simulator was our substantially more ambitious attempt to take the original simulator concept further. It was intended to offer a more detailed environment, more complex track geometry and a significantly more demanding technical solution than the original mobile Subway Simulator.

That technical complexity became one of the main problems during development. Some systems never reached a state we were satisfied with, and the later breakup of the original team brought development to an end before the project was completed or publicly released.

Unlike the original mobile projects, the City Transport Simulator source code and some of its assets have survived. From today's perspective, however, they are not a foundation on which it would make sense simply to continue. The technology, architecture and some of the original technical decisions are outdated, and it would be more effective to rebuild many parts of a high-quality modern simulator from scratch.

Even unfinished, CTS remains an important part of WAPP's history. Above all, it showed us where the real technical difficulty of a project like this lies – and those lessons may be more valuable today than the old code itself.

The project was never publicly released

Development of City Transport Simulator ended before completion. The surviving code and assets are not a public game available for download, and a high-quality modern simulator could not be built on them without substantial redevelopment.
